Sodexo talks the talk but does it walk the walk?

Here is a direct quote from the Sodexo website concerning unversity food
"We maximize the nutritional value of every offering, but our ultimate goal is to create food services that evoke a passionate response. To cater to individual tastes, we listen to students. Constantly. Our innovative programs meet their every craving, while delivering culinary excellence, attentive customer service, and engaging style. "

Now I am a student, and I have a meal plan and have tried letting Sodexo know about my cravings by E-mailing them at CampusServices@SodexhoUSA.com. So far I've gotten no response and the only passionate response I've had towards Sodexho's services at UVM has been passionate disgust.

I talked to one of the food vendors today and they said that the university has said they would get the technology to let them accept points... however their has been lots of talk but no action from them according to the vendors... we need to do something to get our points accepted other places if the dining services cant meet our food demands... the problem is they have a monopoly on campus food because students have to use their points...but because their is no competition to our dining services their is no real reason to improve the food... because students are ultimately forced to buy high priced... low quality food and that is B.S.

if the meal plan is such a problem, then why would you waste your money on it? refridgerators aren't that expensive, and each dorm is provided with kitchen equipment.

The reason I would spend my money on a meal plan is because in order not to live in the dorms and to not have a meal plan I would have to enter a lottery. The meal plan and housing contract are almost one in the same... the school pretty much forces you to buy it...its pretty hard to find ingredients from simpson store to make myself food in my dorms one kitchen every single night.

dear uvmfoodissuper,
Do you go to school at UVM?? If you live on campus you MUST have a meal plan.

yeah, food situation can be a hassle if you don't have a car. but if its that big of a deal, we have supermarkets a few blocks downtown. as for having to have to have a meal plan, a kid on my floor freshman year refused to eat from UVM.. and bought food all year long from price chopper. and although he ate steak and chicken most nights, he claimed the price is cheaper than UVM.

yes the kid on your floor may have very well got food off campus all year..however what you fail to realize is that he was one of the very few fortuate kids who got permission from the university to do this...however are housing contracts that we sign bind us to some sort of meal plan... only very few exceptions are allowed each year...the problem is that the school forces you to buy a meal plan that leaves you with the only option to buy low quality.. over priced food.

Honestly, sodhexo sucks! Mostly everything they say on their website is bs. If they really cared about nutrition maybe I would be able to get something other than chicken fingers, fried mozzarella sicks, french fries, pizza, clazones, or a yucky chicken loafer for dinner at the marche.

Dear uvmfoodissuper,
Do you know how impossible it is to live on campus and not have a meal plan? I don't think so. For about 99.9% of the kids who live on campus and are forced to buy a meal planl, the food here sucks! And now that an obesity epidemic is sweeping over our nation, maybe the thousnads of dollars we spend on food a year, could be of a better quality and nutritional value. Freshmen 15 is not something to be proud of and with sophomores being forced to live on campus as well, the sophomore 15 is even worse!

Whats wrong with the dining halls? They always have a reliable fruit/yogurt section. always a cereal section, where 3 of the 6 cereals are always healthy. and bagels. during lunch there is always a salad bar. oranges. apples. bananas. if you look hard enough for good food, you'll find it. plus, when you graduate, itll make you appreciate homemade cooking so much more :)

This is certainly an interesting conversation. I'm surprised anyone is sticking up for the food here. Anyway, in response to that last post, you're right - there is good food to be found. Unfortunately, there's two rather glaring problems with that. One, it's always the same. Two, if you're paying $8 for a meal (or whatever breakfast and lunch cost), there's no way you're going to get your money's worth eating what you listed - all that stuff is incredibly cheap, and you have to pay the high cost no matter what you eat at the dining halls.
